関東滞在に思う空気の重さ/ The heaviness of the air I feel during my stay in Kanto.

関東のほうが、幾分咳き込んでいる人が多く、私自身も身体にかかる負荷は関西から関東に来るといつも感じます。

There seem to be somewhat more people coughing around the Kanto region, and I always feel the physical strain myself whenever I come here from Kansai.

今年の春ごろから、その傾向がある。

This tendency has been noticeable since around this spring.

さて、中国でのコロナ新種の件はこちらにも幾分漏れ伝わってきますが、おそらく現地はもっと厳しいように思う。

Now, news about a new strain of COVID in China has trickled down to us here as well, but the situation on the ground over there is likely much more severe.

全ての病は業病だけれども、コロナはやはり何か象徴的ですね…ホメオパシーの使い手たちは中国の抱える何かと病の力学を探究していると思う。

While all illnesses are, in a sense, karmic diseases, COVID still feels quite symbolic... I imagine homeopaths are exploring the dynamics between the power of the disease and whatever it is that China is grappling with.

例えば、普通は病を通過すると人間は清まって心身が清々しくなるものなのです…が、コロナを機に中国は自閉的な世界へとますます転向しています。

For instance, normally, passing through an illness purifies a person, leaving both mind and body feeling refreshed... yet, using COVID as a turning point, China is shifting increasingly toward an autistic, self-enclosed world.

このことも私は着目していますが。そして、おそらくコロナの軍事研究由来は否定しきれないでしょう。

This is something I am paying close attention to. And, frankly, we probably cannot completely rule out the possibility that it originated from military research.

関東ではセルフクリーニングに密かに精進する人が減っているのかもしれないな。

Perhaps fewer people in Kanto are quietly devoting themselves to self-cleaning these days.

YouTubeを見ると、いわゆるスピリチュアルとか占星術とか人間の内面次元を扱うコンテンツでは、ほぼ安易なものばかりになったように思う。

Looking at YouTube, it seems that content dealing with the inner dimensions of human nature—like so-called spirituality or astrology—has become almost exclusively superficial and facile.

昔からそうだったんじゃないのというツッコミがあるかもしれないけど、20年ぐらい前はもっと真剣な感じはあったな。

Some might retort that it was always like that, but about twenty years ago, there used to be a much more serious vibe to it.

まあ、振り返るつもりはないけど（笑）

Well, I have no intention of living in the past, though (😆).

それでもこれからも自分が生きる日本をそれなりに盛り上げてはいきたいね。

Still, I’d like to do my part to liven up Japan—the place where I live—in my own way moving forward.

これは人びとはどうあれ関係ない。自分ごとやね。

《財運ことはじめ その3》関東への道中にて/ On the Road to Kantō

本日、関東への道中、極めて素晴らしい晴天です。

Today, on the road to Kantō, the weather is wonderfully clear.

さて、タイ仏教には前世紀、そして今世紀も極めて傑出した師が幾人も出現されていたのを知ったのは実は今年からです。

I only learned this year that Thai Buddhism has produced a number of truly outstanding masters, both in the last century and in this one.

南方上座部仏教、とりわけヴィパッサナ瞑想（マインドフルネス）はまだ日本で知られてない時代、学生の頃からかじってましたが。

I had dabbled in Theravada Buddhism, especially Vipassana meditation (mindfulness), since my student days, back when it was still little known in Japan.

さて、タイ仏教はお守り（仏牌/プラクルアン）が盛んなのです。

Thai Buddhism, by the way, has a thriving tradition of amulets (Buddha amulets / Phra Khruang).

ネットで、とある温厚な僧のお姿を彫ったものを見かけ、ふと、その方を調べると、極めて慈悲ぶかく、卓越した境涯に感じ入りまして、

Online, I happened to come across an amulet carved with the likeness of a gentle monk. On a whim I looked into him, and I was deeply moved by his profound compassion and his exceptional spiritual attainment.

ああ、素晴らしいなと散歩中に思っていると、明らかにその方に神通で時空を超えて話かけられている感じが強烈にきまして😳

"What a wonderful person," I was thinking during a walk, when I felt very strongly that he was speaking to me across time and space through his supernatural powers 😳

茫然としつつ、ありがたいやら、いささか恐縮の思いやらでしたが、

Stunned, I felt gratitude mixed with a certain sense of awe and unworthiness.

これは宿世の縁に違いないと分かるや、その方のお手製のお守りを慌てて散歩中にスマホからタイ関係の方に依頼したのでした。

（ま、この手のハナシは話半分の聞き流しでお願いします😌）

The moment I realized this must be a bond from a past life, I hurriedly arranged, from my smartphone right there on my walk, to request an amulet he had made by hand through a contact connected to Thailand.
(Well, please take this kind of story with a grain of salt 😌)

考えても見ますと、フツーの日本人とはかなり違う領域に来てしまいましたが、ともかく、確かな幸福の世界に入ってきたように思う。

Come to think of it, I've ended up in a realm quite different from that of the average Japanese person. Still, I feel I have entered a world of genuine happiness.

こうしてバスに乗っていても仏さまの前にいる感じになってきてもいる。ありがたいです。

Even riding the bus like this, I've started to feel as though I'm in the presence of the Buddha. I'm grateful.

現代、かなりの日本人はこのあたり見失っていると思うけど、西洋人はもっとその喪失度合いが酷いですね。

I think many Japanese people today have lost sight of this, and Westerners have lost it even more severely.

そして、彼らの文明がその苦しみをどう打開してゆくのか、私は注視しているのです。

I am watching closely to see how their civilization will find a way through that suffering.

このあたり、実は財運と先祖や諸精霊、そして功徳の摩訶不可思議な繋がりの謎解きの端緒だと思う。

I think this is actually the starting point for unraveling the mysterious connections among wealth fortune, ancestors, the various spirits, and merit.

例えば、風水を齧ると必ず「墓と大地とお祀り」のハナシが出てきますね。

For example, whenever you dip into feng shui, the topic of "graves, the earth, and offerings" inevitably comes up.

世の中で話が通じることはほとんど無いゆえに/ Because in this world, there is almost no such thing as being truly understood,

　

YouTubeなど見ていると、占い師たちがやれどこに住んではいけないやら何やら語っていて困ったものだと思う。

Watching YouTube and the like, I find it troubling to see fortune-tellers going on about where one must never live and so on.

本当はもっと敬意を持って人生、大地、歴史に向き合うべきと思う。

I truly believe we should face life, the land, and history with far more reverence,

アレコレ世界を指差して評価するのではなく。

rather than pointing at the world and passing judgment on this and that.

京都も戦場の上にあるようなものですが、どうでしょうか、よく人間が精進すれば土地の神さまは安寧を深めると思いますね。

Kyoto, too, sits on what is practically a battlefield. But what of it? I think that when people devote themselves sincerely to their practice, the local deities deepen the peace and stability of the land.

でもそういう発想の人は少ないな。

Yet few people think this way.

やはり人々に話をしても難しいと思います。

Even so, I suppose it is hard to talk to people about it.

本当は世の中の全体を自分の中から少しずつひっくり返してゆかねばなりませんが、たぶん世間ではそういう話は受け入れられないでしょう。

In truth, we have to turn the whole world over bit by bit, starting from within ourselves, but such talk would probably not be accepted in society.

ともかく、人々と話が出来ることが稀な時代だからこそ、少なくとも自分の道を歩んでゆきたいですね。

Still, precisely because this is an age in which real conversation with others has become rare, I want, at the very least, to keep walking my own path.

末法の薬は時の賢人説より地味な継続/ In the Age of the Final Dharma, the remedy is not the teachings of the sages of the day, but plain, unglamorous perseverance.

何でも続けてゆくことが鍵のようです。

Continuing with anything seems to be the key.

Now then...

私もいちおう横浜出身、中華街🍜にはご縁あり、若き日の就職活動の頃、関帝廟界隈に寄って気分転換して図書館で準備したりとか

（それで都の役人になれたと思う）

I'm from Yokohama, after all, and have a connection with Chinatown 🍜. When I was job hunting as a young man, I would stop by the area around the Kanteibyo (Guandi Temple) to clear my head, then go prepare at the library.

(I think that's how I became a Tokyo civil servant.)

京都に移る前も神戸北野町で一年暮らして、南京町に癒されていたように思う。

Before moving to Kyoto, I also lived for a year in Kitanocho in Kobe, and I think Nankinmachi soothed me there.

なぜか中華系の人たちに支えられ、ご近所になります。

For some reason I've always been supported by Chinese people, and I end up living near them.

一応などといったら叱られますが、中国の神様がたを家でもお祀りするのも縁があるみたいです。

I'd be scolded for saying "technically," but I seem to have a connection with enshrining Chinese deities at home as well.

孔子より前、周の建国の頃のある賢人の財神さまをお祀りしますと、何と我が家に現れて下さり、三千年前が"今ここにあり"衝撃を受けた次第。

（ま、ハナシ半分で聞き流してください笑）

When I enshrined a wealth deity, a sage from the time of the founding of the Zhou dynasty, before Confucius, he actually appeared in my home. I was shocked to feel that three thousand years ago was "right here, right now."

(Well, please take this story with a grain of salt, 😆)

さて、日本人も多くの人が老子さまテイストが好みだと思いますが

Many Japanese people, I think, prefer the taste of Laozi,

例えば「上善、水の如し」とか、「道の道（い）うべきは常の道に非ず。 名の名づくべきは常の名に非ず」とかです。

with lines like "The highest good is like water," or "The Tao that can be told is not the eternal Tao; the name that can be named is not the eternal name."

よく分からなくても何となく分かると思う🍶

Even if we don't fully understand them, we somehow understand them 🍷.

今回、ご縁あってようやく老子さま（太上老君）をお迎え出来ました。

This time, thanks to a fortunate connection, I was finally able to welcome Laozi (Taishang Laojun) into my home.

道（タオ）というのは深い愛のことだと、ようやくハッキリわかりまして、身体がしばし動かせない感じでした😳

I finally understood clearly that the Tao is deep love, and my body felt unable to move for a while 😳

時間をかけて心の準備を待ってくださったように思いまして、それで何事も継続だなぁ、と。

It felt as though he had waited patiently, giving me time to prepare my heart. That is why I think that in everything, continuing is what matters.

私も今の時代はやだなぁ、唐の頃の長安士大夫のようにさっさと引退し、弘法大師様から書道と仏教を習ったら幸せだろなぁと多分に思うけど、今の時代でやるべきこともそれなりにあるのでしょう。

I'll admit I often feel I don't like the present age. I think how happy I would be to retire early like a scholar-official of the Tang dynasty and learn calligraphy and Buddhism from Kobo Daishi. But I suppose there are things I'm meant to do in this age too.

現代という時代は「人が得られない」時代だと私は思う。

I think the modern era is an age in which "people can't be found."

今の時代の経営者や学者が何か説いていても道の響きは薄く、なんというか像法的な匂いがある。

When today's business leaders and scholars teach something, the ring of the Tao is faint, and there is a whiff of the Age of Semblance Dharma about it.

例えば昔の天台大師のような人たちはもう世の中にいないと思います。末法ですね。

For example, I believe people like Master Tiantai (Zhiyi) of old no longer exist in this world. It is the Final Dharma age, after all.

それと、とあるタオイストが仰るにやはり世の中に目立つカタチで出てゆかないほうがいいみたいですね。（インフルエンサーの時代だけど）

Also, a certain Taoist told me that it is better not to step out into the world in a conspicuous way (even though this is the age of influencers).

　§

老子さまは、タオイストがいうには道そのものが人間として降りてきた御姿のようです。

According to Taoists, Laozi is the Tao itself, descended as a human form.

私も今回、そんなふうに思いました。

This time, I came to feel that way too.

これからの時代、人びとはどのように自分の道を見出してゆくのかな…

九月の東京はずっと雨で、お住まいの皆様は辛抱の時期だったと思います。

September in Tokyo was rainy almost the whole way through, so it must have been a time of patience for those of you who live here.

天候や暦はやはり不思議で、心の深いところと関係しているふうですね。

Weather and the calendar really are mysterious. They seem to be connected to something deep in the heart.

そういえば、先月から本ブログへの来訪の方々も徐々に増え、秋気の立ち上がりから新しい時間帯を感じてまして、有難く思います。

Speaking of which, the number of visitors to this blog has been gradually growing since last month. With the first stirrings of autumn air, I'm sensing a new time of day, and I'm grateful.

ざっくばらんに、ヘリオ的な宿命消化論と人生の自由とか、それに面白い知見も入れて書いてゆきたい。

タイ仏教では瞑想達人が多く、神通力で未来のことが分かる人たちが色々仰る傾向があるけど、

In Thai Buddhism there are many meditation masters, and those who can see the future through supernatural powers tend to say all sorts of things.

ヒンドゥの聖者はあまり未来のことは語らずに、神への信頼を説く傾向が強いですね。

As for me, I try not to decide which is better. I simply watch both tendencies with interest, because each must have its own reason for appearing.

片方だけだと、何かが病んでくると思いますが、これは大っぴらに言うべきでないかも。

If you have only one side, I think something starts to become unwell, though perhaps this isn't something to say openly.

ちなみに個人的には日本のことは心配してません。海外は色々ありそうですが、その国々の人たちの精進次第でしょうね。

Incidentally, I personally am not worried about Japan. Overseas, there seem to be a lot of things going on, but that will depend on the diligent efforts of the people in each country.

イスラエルの首相が、国連演説で戦いの歴史と覚悟を語るのを聞き、何と評すべきか分からなくなりまして、神が地上でなさる仕事は人間には理解不能だなと改めて感じたけども、

I listened to the Israeli prime minister's speech at the UN, in which he spoke of the history of the fighting and of resolve, and I found I didn't know how to assess it. It made me feel once again that the work God does on earth is beyond human understanding.

ともかく「目前にあるレメディ」を見抜けば、自分と自分の属する共同体のいのちを育ててゆけると思う。

Still, I believe that if we can see through to "the remedy right in front of us," we can nurture the lives of ourselves and our communities.

これは真剣な仕事でもありますが、でもリラックスして取り組むのがいい。

This is serious work, too, but it's best to approach it in a relaxed way.

正義、富、快楽の三つは何度も解脱の相を通過させて、進化させてゆくのが人生かも知れないですね。

Perhaps life is a process of taking the first three, righteousness, wealth, and pleasure, through the aspect of liberation again and again, and so letting them evolve.

輪廻転生は無いと言いたい人たちも多いけど、むしろ、ずっとあるという見方を心柱に据えてもいいとも思う。

Many people want to say that reincarnation doesn't exist, but you might also consider making the view that it always has been there a pillar of your outlook.

中国の達人が易や四柱推命の理解は中国人でなければ深くには難しいと語ってたけど、四柱推命は輪廻転生を前提としないと見えてこない部分がある。

A Chinese master once said that unless you are Chinese, it is hard to grasp the deeper parts of the I Ching and Four Pillars. But there are parts of Four Pillars that simply don't become visible unless you assume reincarnation.

そこは中国の人たちは苦手だったりもしますね。でもたぶん彼らは自覚してなさそうだなァ🍵

That's an area the Chinese tend to be weak on. But they probably aren't aware of it 🍵

昨日はお山に月参りの日。

Yesterday was my monthly visit to the mountain shrine.

数年続けた月詣りですが、今年、冬の終わりからお詣りを休んでいると（いささか疲れたのと、外国人観光客が多すぎで😅）

I've kept up these monthly visits for several years, but since the end of winter this year I had taken a break (partly because I was a bit worn out, and partly because there were just too many foreign tourists 😅).

神さまから不思議な？お手紙が来まして、先月から再開です。…なんと観光客が落ち着いている！

Then a rather mysterious "letter" arrived from the deity, and I resumed last month. And to my surprise, the tourists had settled down!

お詣りしていると、ずいぶん私は神様に大事に護っていただいているんだなと、ごくごく最近自覚するようになりまして、

While praying, I've only very recently come to realize how deeply I've been protected and cherished by the deity.

目が開き始めるまで時間がかかって、ちと恥ずかしいですが、ともかく良かった。

It took me a long time for my eyes to begin to open, which is a little embarrassing, but in any case, I'm glad.

世間色々見ていると、確かに力ある霊能者やヒーラー、あるいは祈祷僧方がおられるけども、Looking around at the world, there are certainly spiritual mediums, healers, and prayer-offering monks who have real power.

本当はやはり各自、自ら神仏との回路を回復させたほうがいいですね。（が、この見解は理由あって、広く支持されることはないでしょう）

But in the end, I think it's better for each person to restore their own connection with the gods and Buddhas. (For reasons of my own, though, I doubt this view will ever be widely supported.)

パワーのある人たちはやはり病んでいますね…あえて率直に書きますが、ご理解の程を。

People with power are, after all, unwell. …I'll say it frankly, though I hope you'll understand.

他者を救ったり導いたりの立場から離れるのは、なかなか難度の高いように思う。

Stepping away from the position of saving or guiding others seems to be quite a difficult thing to do.

世間を見ると、お坊さんなど、やはり人々に説法する立ち位置で、それが世間。いろいろ含め、まるまる、あるがままで良しでしょう。

Looking at society, monks and the like stand in the position of preaching to people, and that is simply how the world is. Taken as a whole, with everything included, perhaps it's fine just as it is.

世の中とはやはり多層的で、自らの道に合致するひと、つまり連れ合いなり友だちなりを得るのは実はハードルが高い側面ありと思う。

The world is multilayered, and I think there is actually a high hurdle in finding someone who matches your own path, whether a partner or a friend.

それでも世間の人々が人数集まってワアワアやっているのは、"未消化の宿業の消化"という所でやっていて、

Even so, the reason people gather in numbers and make such a commotion is that they are, in effect, working through "unresolved karma."

学校も会社も世界も問題頻発なはず。

That is why schools, companies, and the world at large are full of recurring problems.

そういうわけで、ある程度人生の熟度が上がってきたら、自分らしく商売をやってゆくがいいとは傾向的に言えます…が、難しいですネ🍵😅

So, as one's life matures to a certain degree, there is a general tendency for it to be good to run a business in one's own way… but it's difficult, isn't it 🍵😅

しかし、人生とは『生きたプロセスを使っての本質的問いかけ』ですから、

Still, since life is "an essential questioning carried out through the living process,"

一部の、頭の少々おかしい、勇敢な方々にはやはり自分らしい道を切り開いてほしいという思いは私もあります。

I do hope that some of the brave, slightly crazy ones will carve out a path of their own.

YouTubeなど見ると、インフルエンサーから励ましを受けたりとかの視聴者たちで、ちと頼りない人たちばかりだけど、人々はそんなものだと思う。

Watching YouTube and the like, the viewers seem to be people who get encouragement from influencers and are rather unreliable, but I suppose that's just how people are.

この世界を物質的な眼で見てゆくならば、真の安寧と真の勝利は無いのは明らかだと思うけど、多くの人びとはその意味で、問いかけが甘い。

If you view this world through materialistic eyes, it is clear that there is no true peace and no true victory, and in that sense, many people are not questioning deeply enough.

良くはないけど、それでいいのでしょう笑。

It's not good, but I suppose that's fine too, haha.

しかしながら古代の中国の賢人もそういうこともまた人間の有り様と言っています…五千年くらい前の人々の姿をみて、ですね。

Even so, the sages of ancient China already said that this too is part of the human condition, looking at the people of some five thousand years ago.

占星術ととある禅問答/ Astrology and a Zen Koan

秋分から少し経過しましたが、いかがお過ごしでしょうか。

Some time has passed since the autumn equinox. How are you doing?

こちらでは数日天候不順が続き、何となく"清め"的プロセスだったのかな、今朝はスッキリです。

Here, we had several days of unsettled weather, which I think was a kind of "purification" process. This morning I feel refreshed.

「ある"瞬間"に自分の見る世界を、ひとつの巨大な言語、つまり"神のコトバ"とみて、それを読み解く」のが布置（コンステレーション）の見方であり、占いの神秘思考です。

The constellation (configuration) view, the mystical thinking behind divination, is to take the world one sees at a certain "moment" as one enormous language, the "Words of God," and to read it.

今のカッコ書きの文章を見ていただくと、その神さまのコトバは「この自分」から立ち上がっている、となっていますね。

If you look at the sentence in quotation marks I just wrote, you'll see that these Words of God arise from "this self."

つまり、"この自分"とやらは、それほどに鍵を握る存在である、というわけです。

In other words, this so-called "self" is an existence that holds the key to that degree.

　§

あとは鍵となるのは何でしょうか…太陽的思考と月的思考でしょうか。

What else might be a key... perhaps solar thinking and lunar thinking?

例えば日本なら神道と仏教、インドならヒンドゥとイスラム/仏教、タイなら仏教とシャーマニズム…みたいに太陽的な世界と月的な世界のモノの見方がある。

For example, in Japan there are Shinto and Buddhism; in India, Hinduism and Islam/Buddhism; in Thailand, Buddhism and sorcery... Each has a solar world and a lunar world, two ways of seeing things.

主流派と、周縁系みたいなのもそうかな。

The mainstream and the peripheral are much the same, I suppose.

これも"自分"の両手ですが、その太陽と月を繋ぐ「誰かさん」については、占星術の界隈の人たちは沈黙、あるいはスルーしがちな気がします。

These too are the "two hands" of the self, but as for the "someone" who connects that sun and moon, people in astrological circles tend to stay silent or pass over it.

推測するに、それは自己理解の道ではなく、誰かを観て生業とする人たちが多いなのかな（失礼）

My guess is that many of them make their living by observing others rather than walking the path of self-understanding (forgive my rudeness).

　§

端的に言えば、その誰かさんを探してゆくのが「時間の輪」、つまり人生であり、宿命であるけれども、

To put it simply, searching for that "someone" is the "wheel of time," that is, life and destiny.

それは他者、共同体、国土そして世界と深く一体化して成立しているわけでした。

Yet it is established in deep unity with others, the community, the land, and the world.

それで人は、"世間体ふう他人軸"とか、あるいは"いまふう自分軸"が好きなようですが🍵、本当は、"かの全てを貫く軸"を求めている、これが人生だと思う。

People seem to like the "worldly-appearances-driven other-axis" or the "trendy self-axis" 🍵, but what they really seek is "the axis that runs through all of it." This, I think, is life.

これは外に見つけられるとも内に見つけられるとも言い難い、"瓢箪で捕えるナマズ"と禅では言いうけど

One cannot say it can be found outside or inside. Zen calls it "catching a catfish with a gourd."

どんなふうにこの禅問答の答えを見つけてみたいと思いますでしょうか？
